Spain’s national rail infrastructure manager, ADIF, is advancing workforce training through Virtual Reality (VR), using Virtualware’s VIROO platform to deliver faster and safer instruction. The Railway Infrastructure Training Simulator (RITS), currently deployed at the national rail training center in Valencia and two remote sites, supports operations, maintenance, and signaling education.
The system trains around 1,000 new workers each year, addressing a rapidly retiring workforce and the need to attract younger talent to vocational roles. VIROO enables flexible learning through desktop, CAVE, free-roam VR, and standalone headsets within a secure enterprise XR environment.
Plans are underway to expand to more than 20 centers nationwide, with future modules for driver and signaling training. The initiative represents one of the most comprehensive XR deployments in the rail sector, according to the company.
