The new Maternity Simulation Centre at Tamworth Hospital was officially opened in December 2024, aiming to enhance midwifery training in the region. The facility, developed in partnership with Hunter New England Local Health District and Charles Darwin University, offers a variety of simulation equipment to replicate pregnancy, birth, and postnatal scenarios, including complex obstetric and neonatal emergencies. The centre will provide hands-on training for midwifery students, nurses, and doctors, enabling them to develop essential skills in a safe, immersive environment.

The facility also supports online courses for local students pursuing midwifery qualifications, allowing them to complete practical training locally, rather than traveling to larger centres. This initiative is part of broader efforts to attract and retain midwives in regional areas, with additional measures like scholarships and workforce planning strategies.
