Hyvärilä Youth Centre in Nurmes, Finland, has launched a project under Erasmus+ to explore how artificial intelligence and virtual reality can enhance youth work. Motivated by the need to keep pace with digital development, the initiative offered basic training for youth workers and decision-makers on how to apply these technologies securely and effectively.

The training addressed knowledge gaps and hesitancy around digital tools. Participants tested AI applications for administrative tasks and developed new ideas for engaging youth. Decision-makers were introduced to the practical uses of VR, aiming to shift perceptions that it is solely entertainment.

Plans are also underway for a virtual youth centre, which could simulate real-life situations such as job interviews and support young people experiencing anxiety or living in remote areas. The project emphasized inclusion, encouraging youth to help build the virtual space and develop skills for their future careers.
