Rockwell Collins will supply visual systems, including image generators, databases, and projectors, plus avionics, data and software to Coptersafety Ltd, an independent helicopter training establishment Helsinki, Finland. The systems will be used at Coptersafety’s new training facility at Helsinki Airport.

This contract marks Rockwell Collins’ debut in the commercial helicopter simulation and training arena, and allows the company to “to leverage the benefits of our avionics and visual systems, and apply them to an adjacent application,” said LeAnn Ridgeway, vice president and general manager of Simulation and Training Solutions. Rockwell says the comprehensive suite of capabilities and products will facilitate the use of technologies, previously used in military rotary wing applications and apply them to the commercial helicopter training environment.

Under this contract, Rockwell Collins will supply three visual systems to be used on “roll-on-roll-off’ full flight simulator platforms, adaptable for five aircraft trainers including, H125, H145, AW169 and AW189 helicopters.

Simulation and training technologies integrated into the visual systems include:

  • The EP-8100 image generator, already used for other commercial fixed-wing and military applications
  • Rockwell Collins new WholeEarth populated world model with 3D feature
  • Laser illuminated high fidelity projectors
  • Custom made training scenarios, avionics parts and data

The first devices are due to enter service in late-2017.
