In July this year, Phoenix Helicopters opened its third base in Lee-on-Solent following an announcement that Solent Airport was to undergo a multi-million pound upgrade.

The new branch will be run by manager Clive Sturdy EASA CPL(H), FI(H), and will offer students the chance to undertake a professional pilot’s course (from zero hours to Commercial Pilot License) as well as providing ground school courses for those attaining their Private Pilot License (PPL).

The company also offers a VIP charter service, which is available to transport passengers to major events in the South, with Phoenix saying it expects to embark on frequent trips and tours to close-by Isle of Wight.

Phoenix Helicopters runs a successful apprenticeship scheme, with Alex Strassel already learning on the job at the Lee-on-Solent base.

“We decided to develop operations at Solent Airport after noticing significant demand for both helicopter charter and training in the Portsmouth area,” explained Paul Andrews, Owner of Phoenix Helicopters. “Our first six weeks have run very smoothly. We continue to look forward to engaging with many more new customers, whether they’re learning to fly or just taking a one-off trip.”

Phoenix Helicopters also has facilities at Blackbushe Airport and Goodwood Aerodrome. Currently in use by the company across the three bases include Robinson 22, Robinson 44 and Cabri G2 helicopters.
