EDM invests £1m in new CNC machines to support growth

EDM has purchased four new CNC machines over the past 12 months to help meet the demands of its rapidly growing order book.

The introduction of the four new CNC machines – a Mazak VTC-800, Mazak VTC-760, Mazak VCN-530C and Mazak Variaxis i-500 – amount to an investment £1m in the company. They are supported by EDM’s existing CNC machining capability and suite of manual milling and turning machines.

They will enable EDM to improve the manufacturing times for its simulators and reduce reliance on third party component suppliers. Furthermore, the investment has enabled the current manual machinist team to be upskilled whilst also creating new roles.

“These are exciting times for our new generation machining centre,” claimed Steve Grundy, EDM’s Head of Production. “Our advancements in tool holding and improved cutter technology coupled with our new machine capability is allowing us to push the boundaries. On a daily basis, our workforce is gaining smarter and leaner methods of machining which is driving even greater efficiency gains.”

The news follows the official opening of EDM's new manufacturing facility at it's Manchester, UK headquarters during September 2017.
