Indra has acquired a 35.07% stake in Global Training Aviation (GTA) to take advantage of new market trends showing greater demand for training hours over the acquisition of simulators.

GTA, which is headquartered in Madrid and also has a training centre in Indonesia, was established in 2002. Currently, it has three simulators located in the Spanish capital – one each for the ATR 72-500 and ATR 72-600 as well as an Airbus A320 simulator – and an additional A320 simulator located in Jakarta.

Across these two locations, GTA employs more than 120 flight instructors and supports customers spanning 40 countries. The company rents its simulators with or without instructors and offers course packages comprising lectures, simulator practice and flight hours.

GTA also offers advisory services to departments responsible for the instruction and selection of cabin crew and flight attendants, as well as customised training such as English for aeronautical activities.

The acquisition deal provides Indra with the opportunity to market its simulators and other services to GTA's existing customers, increases the joint capacity of capturing new customers and facilitate investment in new platforms. Furthermore, it will achieve synergies across the two companies' marketing channels.

According to Indra, the civil aviation training market has an estimated size of around US$3 billion per annum – around three times the simulator sales market. It says the high growth potential is linked to air traffic development, with the market expected to grow by 5% on a global basis, and at higher levels in Latin America and Asia, where Indra already has a significant presence.
