airBalticTraining has ordered three single-engine DA40 NGs and one twin-engine DA42-VI from Diamond Aircraft for its newly established Pilot Academy.

The deal also includes a DSIM flight training simulator and options for another eleven aircraft. Deliveries are expected to begin in May 2018.

Pauls Calitis, Member of the Board of airBalticTraining, commented, “While primarily preparing our future pilots for the Bombardier C Series, it is vital that the training aircraft also offer a flight deck with large LCD displays with optimised control and display functions in addition to an overall efficiency of the aircraft.”

Amila Spiegel, Sales & Marketing Director at Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH, said, “With our fleet of DA40 NG and DA42-VI – both equipped with the fuel efficient AE300 Jet-A1 engines and the newest Garmin NXi glass cockpit – as well as with the flight training devices, airBaltic will benefit from a high level of standardisation in maintenance, spare parts and procedures.”

“Since announcing the establishment of Pilot Academy last December, we have seen tremendous interest from the potential students,” stated Vilmantas Mazonas, Managing Director of airBalticTraining. “We received over 200 applications, from which the first class of 12 students is selected. The theoretical training will begin this March, and in about three months’ time the first class will have the chance to take a seat already on one of the brand-new training aircraft.”
