Bristol, Austro Control pilot theory exam solution for Brexit

Bristol Groundschool, a pilot theory training school, and Austro Control, the Austrian-equivalent of the U.K. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), reached an agreement to open an exam center at the Bristol Groundschool Training Centre in Clevedon, U.K. to protect students currently or about to start taking their European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) professional pilot theory exams against the British exit from the European Union (Brexit).

In the event that the U.K. leaves EASA and issues its own professional pilot license, the U.K. CAA will recognize EASA examinations, meaning that candidates will be protected, whatever the outcome of the Brexit negotiations.

Bristol Groundschool Director, Rod Wren says EASA will not recognize exams from the U.K. CAA if the U.K. ceases to be an EASA member state.

However, this solution will let students take exams through Austro Control, where their exams will be recognized by all EASA regulatory authorities for the issue of an EASA professional pilot license.

The exams are scheduled from November 20th to 23rd and December 3rd to 6th, with further date confirmations within the next two weeks.

Candidates who have already booked their exams with the U.K. CAA may cancel their booking and get a full refund if it is at least 7 days before the exams are scheduled.
