CMU-Covenant-HealthCare-announce-long-term-agreement

A new 25-year affiliation agreement between the Central Michigan University College of Medicine (CMU) and Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, Michigan, will strengthen their collective support of medical student education and research.

Through the agreement, CMU medical students will continue tocomplete clinical rotations at Covenant facilities under the supervision ofphysicians who serve as CMU faculty members. It also increases opportunitiesfor clinical research on public and community health issues that are prominentin the Great Lakes Bay Region.

“By cementing our long-term relationship with Covenant,communities and residents across our region and beyond will benefit fromimproved access to health care as we fill the critical need for medicalprofessionals,” said Dr.GeorgeKikano, vice president of health affairs and dean of the CMU College ofMedicine.

CMU President Bob Davies said the agreement marks asignificant milestone in the strong and growing relationship between the twoorganizations.

“The region, state, our students — and more importantly, theresidents and communities of our region — will benefit significantly from thishistoric agreement, which will be the first of many of its kind,” Davies said.

“Covenant has long recognized the critical role that medicaleducation plays in community health. This agreement provides our long-termcommitment of resources and support for the CMU College of Medicine and is anaffirmation that Covenant will serve as the primary site for medical educationin the region,” said Covenant President and CEO Ed Bruff.

“Together we will attract the physicians needed in ourcommunities and elevate patient care through collaboration and advancedresearch.”

CMU and Covenant increasingly collaborate on education,training, professional development, clinical research, community engagement andpublic health issues.
