Samsung Heavy Industries and Evergreen have introduced virtual reality training at the Evergreen Seafarer Training Center to support crew readiness for Evergreen’s new methanol dual-fuel container ships.
The VR system simulates tasks such as engine room checks, fuel bunkering, and emergency responses, using SHI’s 3D ship design data. This immersive training allows seafarers to build experience without being onboard, reducing logistics costs and increasing safety. SHI’s Dong-yeon Lee noted that VR tools will be vital for safe green ship operations. The partnership highlights a wider trend toward sustainable, tech-driven maritime training solutions.
