At this year’s European Aviation Training Summit (3–5 November, Cascais, Portugal), the Pilot Conference Stream will feature a joint session from the airline Volotea, the fuel-efficiency specialist StorkJet and the training software provider Hinfact: Integrating Operational Efficiency in the Training Loop.
The starting point is a gap many airlines will recognize. As Renata Niedziela, Founder and CEO of StorkJet, explained, airlines already collect fuel data on every flight and usually know exactly where the fuel goes and which fuel initiatives are not being followed. Policies are in place, and pilots can see their results and optimums through the EFB. But knowledge alone does not change behavior. The missing piece, she said, is bringing all of this into pilot training.
That is where Volotea’s work comes in. Javier Bueno Rassier, the airline’s Training Director, said Volotea has already introduced initiatives with StorkJet and is creating tailored training modules integrated into its EBT program. With Hinfact’s help, the airline is now bringing operational data into its training programs to make them more efficient, generate fuel savings and raise efficiency across its flight crews.
For Hinfact, whose solutions include a training management system, the goal is continuous improvement. Carles Olivares, Head of Operations, described the aim as individualizing and personalizing training based on operational and fuel data, to enable fuel reductions while also improving safety.
Alain Pinxt, Volotea’s Flight Operations Director, will bring the operator’s view: the practical challenge of putting fuel and training data to work at an airline of around 40 aircraft in Europe.
