The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has created an Unmanned Aircraft Systems Collegiate Training Initiative (UAS-CTI) to address the Section 631 requirement of the FAA 2018 Reauthorization Act.

The Unmanned Aircraft Systems Collegiate Training Initiative(UAS-CTI), is designed for universities, colleges, and technical schools by theFAA to recognize institutions that prepare students for careers in unmannedaircraft systems (UAS) or drones. Any public two-year institutions of highereducation that participate in the UAS-CTI program will also be designated asmembers of the Consortium for Small Unmanned Aircraft System TechnologyTraining. The FAA will invite members of this consortium to participate inannual meetings and other events with the agency, and will facilitate thedevelopment sharing of best practices through this consortium.

Post-secondary institutions with UAS curriculums that wantto be recognized as UAS-CTI participants now have the opportunity to apply forthis distinction. The results of this collaborative working relationship willinclude a continuous dialogue with stakeholders to connect universities withgeneral industry, local governments, law enforcement, and regional economicdevelopment to address labor force needs.
