FlightSafety’s Pilot Performance Tool Completes Acceptance Testing

FlightSafety International’s FlightSmart, the company’s new integrated pilot performance evaluation and training tool, has successfully completed acceptance testing at the Columbus Air Force Base (AFB). FlightSafety developed FlightSmart in conjunction with IBM.

FlightSafetyreceived a contract in November 2019 for FlightSmart from the United States AirForce Air Education and Training Command (AETC). It is for implementation ofFlightSmart at Columbus AFB on 16 T-6A training devices, including Initial andOperational Flight Trainers.

“FlightSmartcollects and analyzes pilot performance data using advanced analytics that arepresented on a real-time web-based dashboard,” said Bert Sawyer, Director StrategicManagement. “FlightSmart facilitates a departure from qualitative-basedinstruction towards evidence and competency-based training.  It employs Artificial Intelligence andMachine Learning technology to capture insights using evidence-based trainingmethodologies and then predicts the best training approach to learning byproviding instructors with a comprehensive understanding of a pilot’s strengthsand weaknesses.”

FlightSafety isworking closely with Columbus AFB instructors to optimize the design anddevelopment of the FlightSmart interface. It enables instructors to proactivelyaddress any deficiencies by optimizing the training curriculum while focusingon areas that need improvement, as opposed to repetitive actions rooted in afixed syllabus.
