The Australian Army is placing an increasing focus on urban operations and is modernising its training for the evolving battlespace.
Amongst the key infantry weapons for urban combat is the Remington 870 shotgun. The service recently announced that troops from the 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment were qualified on the weapon.
“The Remington 870 can produce excellent lethality in urban operations, particularly with room clearances and the ballistic method of entry,” said Sergeant Ryleigh Egan, lead instructor for the Army’s shotgun qualification course in the Greenbank Military Training Area.
“The training on the Remington 870 is a mirror image of any other individual weapon system. The operator progresses through lessons covering off on key points and conducts the weapon drills safely shortly thereafter,” Egan added.
The 6th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment is amongst several Army units that are working on modernising their training for urban operations.
