The Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command has concluded the joint maritime Exercise Paschim Lehar (XPL-2022).

XPL-2022 took place on India’s West Coast and was held over a duration of 20 days. Over 40 Indian Navy ships and submarines took part in the exercises.

According to a navy release, XPL-2022 validated operational plans of the Western Naval Command and also enhanced interoperability between the navy and the army, air force and Coast Guard.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed SU-30 MKI and Sepecat Jaguar aircraft (configured in the maritime strike role), in addition to mid-air refuellers and AWACS. These aircraft exercised alongside navy MiG-29K fighters, P-8I and IL-38SD maritime reconnaissance aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).

Army air defence batteries also participated in the exercises along with Coast Guard OPVs, FPVs and Air Cushion Vessels.
