L-3 Link UK has been awarded Level D certification from the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) for its first Airbus A350 full flight simulator (FFS) built for launch customer Cathay Pacific Airways.

The FFS is part of a total package of two A350 FFS training devices and two A350 Airbus Pilot Transition (APT+) trainers. Delivery of the second A350 FFS and APT+ is scheduled for the end of 2016. To date, L-3 Link UK has provided a total of 359 FFS solutions for 102 customers around the world, including 37 in the Asia-Pacific region.

L-3 Link UK's FFS includes a dual Head-Up Display (HUD), six widescreen aircraft cockpit displays, an Airborne Environment Surveillance Unit and the latest Fly Smart with Airbus New-Generation technology. A comprehensive Airline Operational Control (AOC) simulation will be installed to provide enhanced operational training capability. The APT+ includes extensive simulated hardware cockpit controls and equipment and a dual HUD with the symbology overlaid on two visual 'out-the-window' displays.

The FFS and APT+ incorporate Airbus' latest aircraft software models, providing the most realistic and up-to-date simulations possible. A common software load is provided on each level of device for easy updates and consistency of training. In addition, the footprints of the FFS and APT+ are minimized by theuse of the latest-generation commercial-off-the-shelf computing platform architecture.
