RAeS approve new civil cadet pilot award

James Couldridge and Dhak Karanveer Singh have shared The Royal Aeronautical Society's new civil cadet pilot award.

The annual award, devised by the Flight Crew Training Group (FTG) in 2019,  recognises an ab initio commercial pilot cadet trained by an Approved Training Organisation (ATO).

Couldridge and Singh trained respectively at the Atlantic Flight Training Academy in Cork, Ireland, and Bartolini Air in Łódź, Poland. They now work as First Officers with Ryanair.

The duo received the award at the Society’s Headquarters during the International Flight Crew Training Conference in September 2019.

The new prize aims to pay credit to the cadet’s achievement and/or potential. It also looks to recognise those who provided exemplary inspiration to their peers, professionally and personally.

Couldridge and Singh stood out from the nominations received from ATOs so the judging panel opted for a joint award.

The 2020 Civil Cadet Pilot Award is open to all pilots who have graduated from a recognised civil cadet pilot training course at an ATO during the preceding year.  The ATO can be anywhere in the world, and there are no restrictions on the cadet’s background.

Besides setting out the nominee's case, the ATO where the cadet pilot graduated should consult course members about who among their peers most inspired them and include an appropriate comment about inspiration in the citation.

Nominations are due by Tuesday 31 March 2020.  The Society will announce the winner at the annual Honours, Medals and Awards Ceremony in November.  It will also invite them to the  International Flight Crew Training Conference in September.
