APATS First-Time Exhibitor Unveils New Training Offerings

PlaneSym, an FAA Part 142 professional pilot training center, unveiled Airbus A320 type rating training (type rating ATP-CTP, and pilot proficiency training), and a new training management platform, PlaneSym Portal, at APATS 2026 this week — marking the company's first appearance at the show.

PlaneSym Portal is a training management platform that approved training organizations and FSTD operators can implement within their own companies. PlaneSym has designed its type rating training to take pilots beyond minimum certification standards. Working alongside airline training partners and experienced training professionals, the company leveraged decades of proficiency-based training experience to build a program intended to develop the skills a pilot needs to succeed on the line, not simply to pass a checkride. 

"There is a difference between a pilot who can pass a check ride and a pilot who is ready for the line, and everyone in this industry knows the difference," said Shawn Mullin, President of PlaneSym. "We built this program with airline training partners and instructors who are active in the airline training pipeline. Our job is to make sure a pilot leaves with the skills to succeed on the line.

PlaneSym Portal consolidates training center administration, including course development, compliance tracking, document management, scheduling, training records, and FSTD maintenance and billing. It was built to run PlaneSym's own operation and is now offered to outside training providers and FSTD operators.

"We built Portal because we needed it," said Mullin. "Running a training center means the instruction is only half the job. The other half is course design, records, and proving compliance to a regulator, and most operators are doing that across a dozen disconnected systems and a lot of spreadsheets. That problem looks the same whether you are in Las Vegas or Bangkok."
