DFS Aviation Services (DAS), a subsidiary of German air navigation service provider DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung, and Azeraeronavigation Air Traffic Control Department (AZANS) of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC have signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) to expand their long-term strategic cooperation in air traffic management (ATM), covering ATM technologies, operational solutions, training, and digital systems development.
A key outcome of the partnership to date is the opening in April this year of a training centre at the National Aviation Academy of Azerbaijan in Baku, established in accordance with DFS standards. The centre serves as a platform for professional training, innovation, and human capital development in regional ATM.
The newly signed LoU focuses on the development and implementation of next-generation ATM systems for Azerbaijan's international and regional airports, with the initial phase covering modernisation at Nakhchivan and Ganja International Airports. Training and human capital development remain a core pillar of the broader cooperation between the two organisations.
"This agreement marks an important strategic milestone for AZANS. Together with DAS, we are advancing Azerbaijan's air navigation systems to a more modern, resilient, and future-ready technological level. Our goal is to establish one of the region's most advanced and effective air traffic management ecosystems," said Farhan Guliyev, Director AZANS.
