CAE Simulator Brings A220 Training to Singapore

Flight Training Alliance (FTA), a joint venture between Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) and CAE, and the Airbus Authorized Training Provider for A220 training, is collaborating with Airbus to establish A220 training capability in Singapore. As part of this, a new CAE 7000XR full-flight simulator will be deployed at the Airbus Asia Training Centre (AATC), a joint venture between Airbus and Singapore Airlines, in 2027.

The deployment marks FTA's first A220 training expansion into Asia-Pacific, supporting the region's growing demand for pilot and maintenance training. Scheduled to be operational in Q4 2027, the simulator will provide A220 operators with training closer to where demand is emerging, supporting entry into service of their aircraft.

FTA will deploy the simulator, while AATC will manage operations and training delivery. The announcement was made at the Asia Pacific Aviation Training Summit (APATS) 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

FTA has been supporting operators for this latest-generation single-aisle aircraft type through its training operations in Frankfurt, Zurich and Rome. That expertise will now extend to Asia-Pacific to help meet industry demand and support a skilled, qualified pilot workforce.

Located at Seletar Aerospace Park, AATC is one of the largest flight crew training centres in the global Airbus network. It offers type rating and recurrent training courses for all in-production Airbus types, with 10 FFS bays. Four are currently dedicated to the A350, two for the A320, and one each for the A330 and A380. One of the bays is occupied by an FFS for the ATR 72-600, manufactured under a joint venture between Airbus and Italy's Leonardo. The centre also has six fixed cockpit training devices and extensive classroom facilities, with the capacity to offer courses for up to 10,000 trainees per year.
