At Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, the 36th Operations Support Squadron conducted air traffic control training for Airmen from Pacific Air Forces and the 139th Operations Support Squadron in preparation for Resolute Force Pacific (REFORPAC) 2025.
The exercise, part of a new Department-Level Exercise series, aims to build readiness for dynamic, contested environments. The tower simulation system replicated Andersen’s flightline, enabling Airmen to gain hands-on experience and FAA certifications in four distinct ATC roles. This boosted available air traffic control personnel by 50 percent.
The certifications were essential for maintaining tower operations during the exercise. Staff Sgt. Joshua Haun noted that REFORPAC presents rare challenges that strengthen controller skills.
The training ensured safe coordination of over 1,600 military aircraft approaches by July 30, preparing the team to manage high operational demands while reducing the risk of mishaps on the ground and in the air.
