BMT has opened its Digital Innovation and Simulation Centre (DISC) at its Fareham facility, consolidating the company's maritime simulation and autonomous vessel assurance capabilities in a dedicated training and testing environment.

The facility centres on BMT's DNV Class A-accredited REMBRANDT navigation simulator, used for port feasibility studies, pilotage training, and quantitative navigation analysis. The center includes a reconfigurable Full Mission Bridge for defence and commercial vessels, two 360-degree pod simulators, two small-vessel simulators, a Remote Operations Centre, and scenario control infrastructure.

DISC will host MASS SEAS (Marine Autonomous Surface Ship Synthetic Environment Assurance System), enabling DNV-grade simulator-based trials of autonomous navigation systems for COLREGs compliance testing. The synthetic environment is designed to support regulatory assurance for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships where real-world trials present cost and risk constraints.

Additional capabilities include BMT ENGAGE, an Unreal Engine-based platform for digital twin development, virtual vessel walk-throughs, and VR/AR training programmes. The system supports human-machine interface evaluation and cyber scenario modelling.
