BAE Systems OneArc has been awarded a five-year contract from the Italian Ministry of Defense to modernise the Italian Army's virtual training capability. The contract, awarded in December 2025, replaces legacy VBS3-based systems with VBS4 and Mantle, a terrain generation platform.
The upgrade delivers new training workstations, advanced fires integration, and next-generation terrain generation tools. The Italian Army uses virtual environments to sustain procedural training across armoured and aviation crews, FIRES operators, snipers, and Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs).
"This upgrade is a major step toward the Italian Army's future-ready virtual training architecture," said Rahul C. Thakkar, president of OneArc.
The transition to VBS4 also ensures long-term interoperability with NATO and allied partners already using VBS4, Blue IG, and Mantle for mission rehearsal and collective training.
