The School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) has finished a one-week simulation training course for Short Service Commission and Special Duties (SSC/SD) Intake 62 officers at the Lill-May Didriksen Simulation Centre, Naval Training Command, Nutekpor.

Part of the officers' Basic Naval Officers Training, the course covered navigation, ship handling and bridge management using simulation technology, including modules on NPRO 6000, bridge management, navigational aids, emergency steering, engine failure awareness, and light and sound signals, giving officers hands-on practice with different navigational scenarios.

Naval Captain Michael Cudjoe, Commanding Officer of SMOPS, praised the officers' dedication during the training. He noted that even though Special Duties officers may not routinely serve at sea, understanding shipboard operations remains important, and said the simulation gives them realistic exposure to life at sea and the basic skills to handle a ship in various situations, encouraging them to keep building on what they had learned.
