The US Navy has introduced the Mobile-Navy Enhanced Simulation for Training (Mobile-NEST), a handheld device built to provide realistic, onboard training for submarine crews. Running on Windows 11, it enables lesson access from anywhere on a submarine, solving issues of space and connectivity.

Originally developed as a virtual reality headset, the device was redesigned as a console after proving more effective and secure. It functions independently or as part of a network and integrates with the Navy’s MRTS 3D Lab, known for creating immersive training tools.

Its first course covers the Los Angeles Class Submarine Emergency Diesel Generator, training sailors on engine operations and maintenance.

Mobile-NEST was recently tested at the Trident Training Facility in Georgia, where officials praised its flexibility and potential. Broader deployment across Navy platforms is planned.
