The Sri Lanka Navy has inaugurated an indigenously developed truck driving simulator at the Naval Driver Training School in Welisara as part of ongoing efforts to expand the use of simulation-based training across the armed forces.
The new B Vehicle Simulator was designed and manufactured by Sri Lanka’s Centre for Defence Research & Development (CDRD).
The simulator incorporates a Stewart motion platform equipped with hydraulic and electrical actuators, providing trainee drivers with realistic motion cues while driving.
The six-axis system enables sailors to experience the physical effects of turning, braking and traversing a variety of road conditions within a virtual training environment.
Designed to replicate the control layout of in-service military trucks, the simulator features a steering system, accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals, side mirrors, and both manual and automatic transmission modes.
The introduction of the driving simulator is expected to enhance driver training by providing a safe and cost-effective environment for sailors to develop and refine vehicle handling skills before operating operational platforms.
