The Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex (WR-ALC) Workforce Development Branch at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, is focusing on workforce readiness through specialized training programs.
The Maintenance Fundamentals Center (MFC) offers 30 courses that prepare new mechanics with essential skills before joining their units. Scott Brady, MFC team leader, said, “These programs are tailored to meet the evolving needs of the WR-ALC and the Air Force mission, provide a foundational skillset for new hires and opportunities for advanced training using cutting-edge technology.”
JJ Howe, MFC Advanced Training Technology Program manager, described the use of virtual reality (VR) to improve training efficiency and retention. The center currently has 165 VR simulations for aircraft including C-17, C-5, F-15, and C-130, covering various maintenance tasks.
Howe added, “The goal is to increase the knowledge base of maintenance technicians in the most efficient way possible, reducing time away from assigned duties while maintaining a quality product for the warfighter.” He highlighted VR’s benefits, including reduced training time and costs.
Paul Parker, MFC Sheet Metal training administrator, emphasized the importance of preparing students for entry-level training in sheet metal work. He said, “It’s important to provide continuous improvement and responsiveness to our student needs.”
The Workforce Development Branch continues to collaborate with contractors and Air Force commands to integrate innovative training technologies and maintain a skilled and ready workforce.
