Aramco Expands Virtual Reality Fire Safety Training

Saudi Aramco has introduced a large-scale virtual reality fire safety training initiative across its oil and gas operations, according to 5thScape. The program immerses workers in realistic simulations of petrochemical emergencies, where they identify hazards, practice emergency response steps, and work with virtual colleagues under time pressure before encountering real incidents. Simulations are designed to mirror conditions at actual Aramco facilities, and the company plans pilot tests at live operating sites to confirm the training holds up under real-world conditions.

Trainees practice locating ignition sources, isolating fuel supplies, and following evacuation and muster procedures, with individual performance tracked and scenarios repeatable without using materials or halting operations. The rollout builds on earlier investments, including Aramco's Global Academy VR training hub, opened in Dhahran in 2023.
