New Mexico State University has introduced “Nutrition Counselor VR,” an immersive program that helps dietetic students practice clinical communication and decision-making. Using a headset, students interact with four virtual patients, each presenting unique emotional and nutritional needs.

The program adapts based on user choices, creating varied outcomes that mirror real-world scenarios. Developed by NMSU’s Innovative Media Research and Extension and Learning Games Lab, the project aims to expand access to standardized, emotionally engaging simulations. Supported by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the tool is available through Meta’s App Lab for Meta Quest 2 and 3 headsets.
