PSMF Acquires New Commitments

The Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) has announcedseveral new commitments from hospitals seeking to achieve goals of ZEROpreventable deaths, as well as an update from one of its current commitments.

Hospital Name: Hospital CIMA Hermosillo in Sonora, Mexico,has made a commitment in alignment with the PSMF's Actionable Patient SafetySolutions (APSS) #2A Hand Hygiene.

Hospitales MAC in Jalisco, Mexico, has made a commitment inalignment with the PSMF's Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS) #1 Cultureof Safety.

Hospital Santos Degollado Bicentenario Isem in Estado deMéxico, Mexico, has made a commitment in alignment with the PSMF's ActionablePatient Safety Solutions (APSS) #5 Patient Blood Management.

Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Florida, made aninitial commitment in May 2018 around APSS #15 Nasogastric Tube (NGT) Placementand Verification. In order to meet the National Patient Safety Goal of zeroharm, gastric pH testing for the confirmation of NG/OG tube placement must beimplemented. NG tube placement is confirmed by testing the pH of gastricaspirate, which should be in the desired range of 1.0-5.0.

Parrish Medical Center also reported a reduction incomplication rates: 261 patients had the gastric PH performed. The benchmarkaverage reported that 2.25 percent of the tubes placed caused serious harm. Itis estimated that six lives were saved this year so far.
