In an announcement by the U.S. Department of Defense, theWhiting-Turner Contracting Co. won a $16-million firm-fixed-price contract for theconstruction of a reserve training center complex at Joint Expeditionary Base,Little Creek, Virginia Beach, Virginia. The work to be performed will providelow-rise reinforced concrete and a steel framed building and will be ofpermanent construction with masonry exterior walls and gypsum board interiorwalls, concrete floors, and pile foundation.

The joint reserve center areas include an assembly hall,classrooms, medical exam rooms, conference room, storage, crews lounge,administrative areas, recruiting office, toilets/locker room/showers,janitorial space, and mechanical equipment spaces. The Marine Corps exclusiveuse areas include active duty administrative offices, a unit conference space, anadministrative space, supply/storage areas, a recruiting space, an armory,shops for communications equipment maintenance, a multi-media/local areanetwork control center, a NEXGEN secure and equipment room, a firearm trainingsimulator, training aids storage, and an exercise and double locker room area.

Work will be performed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and isexpected to be completed by September 2021.
