Boeing calls for simulator training on 737 MAX

Boeing has recommended its MAX pilots under go 737 MAX simulator training prior to the grounded aircraft returning to service.

"Safety is Boeing’s top priority," said interim Boeing CEO Greg Smith. "Public, customer and stakeholder confidence in the 737 MAX is critically important to us and with that focus Boeing has decided to recommend MAX simulator training combined with computer-based training for all pilots prior to returning the MAX safely to service."

CNBC reported that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will "consider Boeing’s recommendations for flight crew simulator training during the upcoming Joint Operations Evaluation Board”.

"The agency will not approve the aircraft for return to service until all parts of the certification process are completed to its satisfaction," the FAA were quoted as saying.

Boeing said it would temporarily pause production of the 737 Max in January. The aircraft was grounded in mid-March following two  fatal crashes, which killed more than 300 people.

In a statement, Boeing said its simulation training recommendation "takes into account our unstinting commitment to the safe return of service as well as changes to the airplane and test results."
