The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has launched a Nuclear Science and Instrumentation Portal to continue training during the pandemic while in-person training is no longer possible at the IAEA Nuclear Science and Instrumentation Laboratory (NSIL).

NSIL provides support for nuclear instrumentation and analytical techniques including mobile radiation monitoring, X-ray spectrometry, accelerator technologies, and compact neutron generators. The portal offers e-learning training materials, software tools for data interpretation, technical documents and reports, a virtual tour of the lab, and more.

“We established this new online platform to be able to address knowledge gaps and capacity building needs in nuclear instrumentation also in times of the pandemic,” said Roman Padilla Alvarez, Nuclear Instrumentation Physicist at the IAEA. “Over the last three months, the portal was visited by nearly 450 unique users from 68 countries.”

Currently, IAEA is offering three courses to students, including Quality Assurance of XRF Analysis of Airborne Particulate Matter, Introduction to Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence, and Introduction to electrostatic accelerators. More courses will be released in the future.

Let's catch up! Join other training organizations in person at this year's World Aviation Training Summit.
