The fifth installment of our CAT Leader Forum Webinar Series, discussing Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT)highlighted the need for instructors to be kept updated and standardised in order to help overcome the implementation challenges that have plagued UPRT for over a decade.

Although an EASA-focused event, the UPRT webinar attracted participants from Australia to Brazil to the U.S. West Coast, including Germany, Kenya, and other points in between.

The presenting panel for the July 29th discussion, moderated by Rick Adams, FRAeS, Halldale, included:

Capt. Martin Mahoney, Emirates,

Dr. Sunjoo Advani, IDT,

Capt. Helen Heenan, KURA,

Capt. David Owens, CAE

They represented the consensus findings of a larger group of subject experts who collaborated in a UPRT workshop.

The panel also discussed the risk of the pilot flying getting “stuck” after startle and how we can deliver UPRT in any simulator; there is no reason to delay for “better tools”.
