As part of the run-up to the Farnborough Air Show, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, Embraer, held a Media Day in Lisbon, Portugal. CAT listened carefully to the President and CEO, Paulo César Silva, who was keen to emphasise that, with the Entry Into Service of the E195-E2 with the major Norwegian airline Widerøe, the OEM has stepped up its game yet again.

With that series of aircraft capable of 4-5 hour flights, it has added to performance available from the earlier turboprops with that airline, and also moved beyond basic regional tasks achieved by its predecessor, the E Series, of which more than 1400 have been sold. He believes that the new aircraft is well positioned to address the needs of the burgeoning LLCs worldwide. At the same time, the development of the military airlifter, the Embraer KC-390 is nearly (95%) complete, with delivery to the first customer - the Brazilian military - planned to take place by the end of 2018.

Whilst he was not drawn on the negotiations with Boeing, Silva was emphatic that there needs to be a level playing field in the business arena. What he sees as unfair and illegal Governmental support of the Bombardier C100/300 Series is at the centre of an ongoing legal challenge.

Silva stated that Embraer is now in the best place it has ever been, and was enthusiastic about the upcoming Farnborough Air Show, where he believes that announcements there by Embraer will have a considerable impact - now we wait and see!
