New Zealand air ambulance operator GCH Aviation will receive an Entrol H145 FTD Level 5 simulator in first quarter 2026 following completion of factory acceptance testing.
The simulator includes mixed reality hoist operator training capability and visual systems designed for helicopter emergency medical services operations. GCH Aviation provides helicopter rescue and air ambulance services across New Zealand's South Island, including Christchurch, West Coast, and Nelson-Marlborough regions.
The device features LED visual displays including floor panels that enable pilots to maintain visual contact with ground areas during simulated hoist operations - a requirement for rescue mission training that distinguishes HEMS simulation from general helicopter training devices.
"This project showcases the evolution of our simulators; by integrating Mixed Reality and our latest LED visual systems, we provide a tool that is not only a trainer but a true mission rehearsal environment," said Claudia Calleja, entrol’s Business Manager
Additional capabilities include coordinated pilot and crew member training through the hoist operator station, vibration systems, and mission debriefing functions.
GCH Aviation has operated helicopter and fixed-wing emergency medical services in New Zealand for over 40 years. The simulator will support instrument rating and mission-specific training for air ambulance operations.
Entrol manufactures EASA and FAA certified flight training devices.
