Essex County Council has confirmed a £5 million contribution toward expanding Stansted Airport College. Councillor Peter Harris, Leader of the council, visited London Stansted with senior colleagues to discuss the plans and see the college's aviation workforce training in action.

Harlow College and London Stansted recently submitted a planning application for the expansion. If approved, student numbers would rise from 568 to around 1,350. Plans include a new two-storey teaching building with 12 classrooms, a workshop and hangar building, a covered courtyard, and an expanded Aerozone education centre with a viewing platform. The first phase is expected to open in September 2027.

Council and airport leaders described the investment as strengthening the partnership between local government, education providers, and employers, supporting a growing pipeline of skilled workers for aviation, engineering, and STEM careers across the region.
