Joby Aviation has completed the successful simultaneous flight of two electric air taxis for the first time. The test, conducted on May 9 in Marina, California, demonstrated further progress in the company’s flight testing program. It follows a recent milestone involving full transition flights with a pilot onboard.
The two aircraft involved, N541JX and N544JX, are part of Joby’s six-aircraft test fleet. The company noted that flying multiple aircraft at once will help accelerate certification efforts and support its plan to begin passenger service next year.
Joby, which has partnerships with Delta Air Lines, Uber, and Virgin Atlantic, aims to launch services in Los Angeles, New York City, the UK, Japan, and Dubai. The company has logged more than 40,000 miles of test flights and continues testing with defense partners at Edwards Air Force Base.
