Leading Edge Aviation has confirmed its involvement in the development and launch of Boeing’s Competency-Based Training and Assessment Learning Library. The collaboration supports evidence-based and competency-focused pilot training approaches.

Leading Edge Aviation is one of four Approved Training Organisations selected globally to support the programme and the only UK-based ATO involved. The organisation worked with Boeing over several years to align the Learning Library with UK Civil Aviation Authority and EASA regulatory expectations. The material is designed to support ab initio training, where foundational knowledge, skills, attitudes, and professional behaviours are established.

The CBTA Learning Library includes scenario-based learning and assessment resources focused on non-technical competencies such as communication, workload management, decision making, leadership, and threat and error management. These areas align with EASA Area 100 Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes requirements and support a structured approach to training and assessment.

During development, Leading Edge Aviation provided feedback from instructors, students, and senior management to support validation and refinement of the Learning Library. The input focused on operational relevance and assessment of observable behaviours rather than knowledge-based testing alone.

“Being selected by Boeing as the only UK ATO involved in this project reflects our commitment to regulatory compliance, instructional quality and modern training methodology. The CBTA aligns closely with our Whole Pilot approach and supports the structured development of both technical competence and non-technical skills from the earliest stages of training,” said Dave Alexander, Chief Operations Officer at Leading Edge Aviation.

The CBTA Learning Library is now integrated into Leading Edge Aviation’s theoretical knowledge syllabus.
