Simaero has launched CBTA Services to Airlines, a consultancy offering designed to help operators transition to Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) and Evidence-Based Training (EBT) approaches.
The Paris-based company is extending expertise gained from transitioning its own Approved Training Organisations to CBTA, with a full CBTA Type Rating Programme anticipated for rollout by summer 2026.
"CBTA is a shift in mindset and method, and it takes consistency and clarity across the training system to make it work," said Patrice Galinier, Group Training Director at Simaero. "Our role is to be a practical partner for airlines making this transition by helping them build programmes that reflect their fleet, operating environment, and training objectives."
The service targets operators at different stages of CBTA implementation, from airlines yet to start their journey to those with established Baseline EBT seeking to integrate CBTA into type rating programmes. Support can be tailored to cover CBTA and EBT together, or either discipline separately, depending on the airline's internal capability and involvement.
Simaero's approach focuses on helping airlines master CBTA philosophy and principles, translating operational and regulatory requirements into training design decisions, and building compliant courses that work in real operations. The emphasis is on developing long-term internal capability rather than creating ongoing dependency.
"Successful CBTA implementation depends on connecting the framework to concrete application," said Cédric Coffignal, Training Manager France and CBTA/EBT Subject Matter Expert at Simaero. "We focus on helping operators build robust CBTA-compliant programmes that stand up to operational and regulatory reality."
The service launch follows Simaero's announcement of its own transition towards full CBTA across its ATOs. The company's Type Rating Programme, currently in development, is designed as a scalable benchmark that can be adapted to individual client fleet types and training objectives whilst maintaining a structured, consistent approach to CBTA implementation.
