University Adds Simulator For Aerial Application Training

CATI Training Systems has added the Air Tractor 802 (AT-802) to its suite of simulator training platforms. The AT-802 Flight Training Device was developed for Delta State University's Aerial Applicator Pilot Training Certification Program, providing an extra layer of on-the-ground training to prepare students for flights in the live aircraft.

CATI worked with OEM manufacturers, agricultural pilots and Delta State University instructors to customize the audio system, aircraft handling, required malfunctions and visual database content. The device was built around subcontractor SGB Enterprises' CAPTE-VCS Single Seat device, with CATI and SGB teaming up to deliver the custom AT-802 Flight Training Device.

The cockpit represents the fit, form and function of an Air Tractor 802 with SATLOC Falcon and G4 guidance systems and Transland, LLC application equipment. The device can represent anomalies and troubleshooting situations encountered during aerial application operations, and control loading mimics the handling and flight characteristics of an Air Tractor 802.

The device supports page and pilot vehicle interface tasks during qualification, refresher and sustainment training, as well as start-up, shut-down, and on-ground and in-flight training tasks and emergency procedures.
