African Lion 2025 officially began in Tunisia on April 22, marking the start of Africa’s largest multinational military exercise. Over 2,000 troops will train in Tunisia, with more than 10,000 participants expected across all four host nations, including Ghana, Morocco, and Senegal.
Now in its eighth consecutive year hosting, Tunisia partners with NATO allies and U.S. forces to strengthen joint readiness through combined arms exercises, airborne operations, and chemical threat response. The Wyoming National Guard will also participate, highlighting 21 years of partnership with Tunisia.
“This exercise serves as a critical opportunity to strengthen burden-sharing among allies and partners, enhance U.S. and partner military readiness, and support our overarching strategic objective of defending the homeland by maintaining the capability to respond to threats in complex, austere environments," said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Al Alawaj, division chief of exercises for U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), the lead planning unit for AL25.
AL25 aims to boost interoperability and regional security through high-intensity training scenarios. Tunisia’s role underscores its growing leadership in promoting peace and stability across North Africa.
