Elbit Systems UK (ESUK) has achieved Initial Operating Capability (IOC) for its Interim Indirect Fires Simulation (IIDFS), a platform providing synthetic training for the British Army on 81mm Mortar and 105mm Light Gun operations. Over the past two years, ESUK developed the system to work with surrogate guns, blending real-life actions with simulated environments.

Following IOC testing, three 105mm Light Gun trainers have been delivered to the Combined Arms Manoeuvre School (CAMS) and the Royal School of Artillery (RSA) for immediate use. IIDFS allows soldiers to train with simulated ammunition, reducing the need for live firing while extending training time, lowering costs, and capturing digital after-action insights to support performance improvement.

Full Operating Capability is expected later in 2025, with remaining 105mm Light Gun and 81mm Mortar systems planned for CAMS, RSA, and the Collective Training Group. ESUK training teams will support personnel through 46 weeks of training over the next year.
