Thales has been awarded a contract to modernise the TACTIS armoured vehicle training centre for the Royal Netherlands Army. The upgraded centre will incorporate artificial intelligence, terrain reasoning algorithms, and realistic simulation environments to better prepare troops for complex missions.

The TACTIS system allows the interconnection of up to 76 simulators for large-scale mission rehearsal involving up to 200 personnel. It also supports 2,500 virtual units, enabling training in a combined arms setting. The modernisation will add simulation support for over 20 new vehicle types, including the CV90 MkIV and the upcoming LEO2A8 main battle tank, in partnership with BAE Hägglunds.

Training realism will be enhanced through the use of Unreal Engine 5, enabling high-quality visual immersion and the inclusion of emerging battlefield scenarios like urban warfare. The mobile nature of TACTIS also allows deployment in a variety of locations, extending the reach of high-fidelity training capabilities.
