The Indian Air Force (IAF) has commissioned a new Fixed-Base Full Mission Simulator (FBFMS) for its Sepecat Jaguar fleet at Air Force Station Gorakhpur, enhancing training capability for the service’s strike platform.

The new simulator complex was inaugurated by Air Marshal B. Manikantan, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the IAF’s Central Air Command, during a visit to the base from 1–2 May. He also undertook a familiarisation sortie on the newly installed FBFMS.

State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was contracted by the air force in November 2021 for procurement of two Jaguar FBFMS to be installed at Air Force Stations Jamnagar and Gorakhpur.

The deal worth INR 3.57 billion (approximately US$47.6 million) for two FBFMS also included a five year comprehensive annual maintenance contract.

The first simulator at Air Force Station Jamnagar was to be commissioned within 27 months of contract signature, followed by the second simulator at Gorakhpur within 36 months.

The IAF is only remaining operator of the twin-engined Jaguar, with six operational squadrons remaining. In total, India acquired 168 aircraft, out of which 40 were acquired directly from the UK, with the remaining 128 aircraft built by HAL under license.
