KAMANDAG 9 officially began with an opening ceremony on May 26 at Fort Bonifacio, Manila. The exercise, which runs through June 6, brings together military forces from the Philippines, United States, Japan, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, and other partners. Hosted by the Philippine Marine Corps, KAMANDAG—short for Kaagapay ng mga Mandirigma ng Dagat—aims to strengthen amphibious operations, humanitarian response, and regional cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.

This year marks the first time Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force is participating as a fully integrated amphibious partner. Throughout the archipelago, troops will train in live-fire scenarios, jungle operations, and maritime landings. Leaders from participating nations emphasized the importance of collective defense and interoperability in facing regional challenges. Public events during the exercise include a humanitarian relief mission on June 2 and a live-fire counter-landing drill on June 4 near Quezon, Palawan.

The joint effort highlights a shared commitment to peace and security in the region.
