Germany's Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded a €119.5 million contract for nine Puma Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) training simulators to Projekt System & Management GmbH (PSM), a joint venture between KNDS Germany and Rheinmetall.
Of the total contract value, €118.5 million is assigned to Rheinmetall, with Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH serving as key subcontractor. The contract, awarded 19 December 2025, covers delivery of firing and combat training systems (AGSP - Ausbildungsgerät Schießen Puma) with first units scheduled for mid-2027.
The order includes upgrading the existing AGSP development model to series production standard and providing transportation containers for all systems.
Rheinmetall developed the AGSP as a purpose-built training system for mechanised infantry forces. The Office for Army Development declared the system ready for service in September 2025.
The simulator replicates battlefield conditions for armoured infantry platoons through accurate modeling of vehicle logic, ballistics, haptics, and aiming behaviour, supporting "train as you fight" methodology.
Each AGSP comprises a control, evaluation and monitoring station (LAKS - Leitsystem zur Ausbildungssteuerung, Kontrolle und Simulation) plus four vehicle cabin replicas housed in twelve 20-foot containers, enabling full relocation capability.
The system's modular design mounts central components including server racks and driver cabins on rail systems, allowing replacement or updates as required. External access to central systems simplifies maintenance and eliminates plant returns, reducing downtime and logistics costs.
Multiple AGSP units can be networked, enabling simultaneous training for two armoured infantry platoons or integration with compatible main battle tank simulators for company-level combined arms exercises.
The AGSP enables comprehensive tactical training for armoured infantry without deploying actual IFVs, supporting accelerated crew training programmes on the Puma platform while reducing operational costs and vehicle wear.
