Saab held a rollout ceremony for the first Gripen F fighter at its facilities in Linköping, Sweden, marking the first delivery of the two-seat variant to the Brazilian Air Force.
Gripen F is the two-seat version of the Gripen E series, designed to meet both training and operational requirements on a single platform, according to Saab. A fully independent second cockpit enables instructor-guided missions in a fully operational fighter, allowing pilot conversion and preparatory training to be accelerated compared to conventional approaches.
Brazil was the launch customer and participated in the co-development of the variant through an extensive transfer-of-technology programme, through which hundreds of engineers and technicians have been trained.
Before delivery, the aircraft will transfer to Saab's Flight Test Centre in Sweden for a dedicated flight test campaign.
The 2014 contract with Brazil covers 36 aircraft — 28 Gripen E and eight Gripen F. Deliveries began in 2020, with 11 aircraft handed over to date. Saab has also received Gripen F orders from Thailand and Colombia.
