Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense announced in July, that it had authorized the use of a new domestically developed laser training system for operational use to train RPG-7 operators.

“This laser training system is a state-of-the-art tool for training RPG-7 grenade launcher crews,” the Ukraine MoD said in a release.

As per the information provided, the RPG-7 grenade launcher training device makes use of a simulated munition that mounts onto the grenade launcher.

The simulator replicates target engagement distances matching the RPG-7’s effective firing range. The simulator also includes a reactive jet effect to replicate target impact.

The new training device will allow Ukrainian soldiers operating the RPG-7 to train on drills for fire discipline, aiming accuracy, shot execution, and safety measures during firing exercises.

As per the Ukrainian MoD, the RPG-7 training device is also interoperable with other training devices with the Ukrainian military, allowing it to be integrated into other training systems.

[Editor’s note: This is another effort by Ukraine to increase its domestic capacity to provide required defense materiel throughout its enterprise. We remain attentive to other efforts to develop in-nation simulation and training capabilities.]
